CENTRAL ASIA SWEEP WBC ASIA AWARDS

Central Asia's top promoter German Titov and Kazakhstan fighter Beibut Shumenov took out the major honour awards at the WBC Asian Boxing Council Conference held 16 December at the Asia Hotel in Bangkok.

WBC Asia President and WBC Vice-President Pol. Gen. Kovid Bhakdibhumi awarded the "promoter of the year 2008" to Titov and the "boxer of the year 2008" to Shumetov.

WBC (#5 ranked) featherweight Chonlatarn Or Piriyapinyo was announced "the outstanding fighter of the year" while lightweight champion Saddam Kietyongyuth picked up the "honorary fighter of the year" award. Former WBC female atomweight champion Winyu Paradorngym was selected as the" female fighter of the year."

As well, Suchart Pisitwuttinan, Pariyakorn Ratanasuban, Naris Singhawungcha, Kokiet Panichyarom, Pramook Rojanaphan and Daniel Potter were named as "the honorary promoter of the year."

Light heavyweight champion Shumenov defended his regional titles twice, including an impressive victory over the former WBC 175lb champion Montell Griffin. He is now recognized as the best light heavyweight boxer in the greater Asia region.
