26 May 2019

The annual WBC Asian Boxing Council awards show took place, this week, on Wednesday the 22nd of May, at Bangkok’s Asia Hotel.

The main award recipients were two WBC Boxing superstars, current WBC minimum-weight world champion, Wanheng Meenayothin, and former WBC super-flyweight champion of the world, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

The two Thai pugilists took home the Asian Boxing Council boxer of year award, for 2018, an award which they shared for their stellar ring activities, in the year gone by.

Wanheng made three successful defenses of his coveted World Boxing Council world championship title, whilst Srisaket defended his WBC championship strap twice, in 2018.

Thai based promoters, Nakornluang promotions and Diamond promotions, jointly shared the WBC Asian Boxing Council promoter of the year award, while former WBC light-flyweight world champion, Suriyan Satorn, won the fight of the year award, alongside his compatriot Siridech Deebook, for their pulsating encounter, which took place back in March of 2018.

The event crowned a total of forty-six award winners from all over Asia: with boxers, managers, promoters and commissioners all recognized by the WBC Asia for their efforts in promoting WBC Asian Boxing Council sanctioned fights throughout the year, across Asia and Australasia.

The event attracted over two hundred boxing promoters, fighters and fans, alike, who converged on the city of Bangkok, from all parts of Asia, and beyond.
