NICK FRESE: THE NEW WBC ASIA WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION

22 Jun 2019

Saturday, June 20: Former amateur standout, Nick Frese, continued his rich vein of form in the professional ranks as he was crowned the new WBC Asia welterweight champion.

The classy pugilist, outshone, outgunned and outsmarted his gritty Filipino opponent, Sonny Katiandagho, to claim the WBC Asia Glory, on the WP Boxing promotion, in Bangkok.

The Championship Fight:

The contest started with Frese setting a dominant tone behind his slick combinations, and at times wonderful deflective movement.

In what was the most impressive aspect of the display by the new champ: were the times in the bout when he was like the ‘school yard bully’ and the ‘straight A student’ — all rolled into one!

The beginning of the end for Sonny, came in the midst of the 6th round, when Nick landed a crisp right hook, for the first of two eight counts, the second count came almost instantaneously: and then another barrage followed, sending the brave Katiandagho crashing to the canvas for the third and final time.

The referee rightly called a halt to the contest to crown the Dutch/Thai boxer the new 147Lb WBC Asia champion.

Nick is trained by leading Thai boxing coach Paniang, and is a former student of renowned International boxing coach Ismael Salas.
