Nongmuay Kokietgym gets past HK challenger
9 Jul 2009
Defending WBC female Light Flyweight Interim Champion Nongmuay Kokietgym (Thailand) and challenger Tse Hoiwah (Hong Kong) fought an extremely close contest that went the full distance with the final result dependent on the outcome of the last round.
For most of the championship Tse Hoiwah stood back from the challenger often throwing wild punches to the face that mostly missed their mark, while Nongmuay adopted a defensive stance showing little aggression towards her opponent.
The evenness of the contest at Seka Nong Kai kept the fight alive and the packed crowd in the outdoor venue on their toes with intrigued and excitement as to the outcome.
The split decision was judged 96-94 in favour of Nongmuay by the two Thai judges Napporat Srichareon and Thawat Ploemgamran, while the third judge Alex Tsui of Hongkong judged the contest 100-93 in favour of Tse Hoiwah.
Nongmuay's performance was impaired by a slight fracture to her right shoulder bone.
On the same card Buarimbung Lookjandaeng Kokietgym had a convincing points win over Chinese challenger Zhai Bing Yan (China) to successfully defend her WBC Asia Light Flyweight championship.
The three judges scored 100-90, 99-91 and 100-90.
