Health Ellis (21) won the WBC Asian Boxing Council Welterweight interim title in Melbourne on 20 November.
The Victorian state's popular fighter won a convincing points decision over Jakkirt Suwunnalird in the 12 rounds championship contest staged by promoter Peter Maniatis in the Malvern Town Hall.
The event under the control of the Victorian Boxing Commission recorded the fight in favour of Ellis with the judges score cards reading Andrew Campbell (120-107), Aneeka Williams (120-107) and Peter Flaherty (117-111)
Ellis praised the hard punching of Jakkirt who attempted to lure the Australian into close in-fighting.
"He hit hard a couple of times," said Ellis. However it was the Victorian champion who landed the biggest punch on the knock knocking down the Thai contender in the third round.
Jakkirt said he could not catch his fast opponent. "He is very quick and threw a couple of big punches, but most of them were off target."
Ellis showed no signs of the surgery he recently had to his shoulder. "It's fine and came through this 12-rounds test very well," said Ellis.
