Sunday, August 22, 2021: D4G promotions hosted a fantastic night of regional boxing at the Conrad Hotel in Dubai this past Friday night, where a new WBC Asian Boxing Council featherweight champion was crowned in the main event.
Afghanistan pugilist Haseb Ahmedi faced off against Azerbaijan boxer Rauf Aghayev for the vacant WBC Asia 126 pound crown in a highly entertaining contest over ten rounds.
Dubai-based Haseb went into the contest boasting an unbeaten record of twelve wins since turning to the pro ranks in 2018. The highly experienced Aghayev held a 31-10 record in his eleven years as a professional boxer.
The crowd in attendance and those watching worldwide via ESPN and IFLTV were not disappointed with a great showing of regional pugilism. It was to be Haseb’s night when he took home a unanimous points decision to claim the WBC Asian Boxing Council featherweight crown and a spot in next month’s WBC world rankings.
In a week of turmoil for his people, Haseb’s victory was dedicated to his people and homeland, by the main himself.
