Monday, August 29, 2022: Md Azahar was yesterday crowned the inaugural World Boxing Council super-featherweight champion, defeating his compatriot Dharamvir Singh via a unanimous points victory.
25-year-old Azahar lost the 1stround on all three judges’ cards but went on to win the next 7 rounds convincingly to become the first ever Indian National champion in the Super Featherweight division.
Azhar proved to be the better technical fighter on the day — before a partisan crowd — who stayed on for the entire fight night. He now has a record of 5 Wins and 5 losses with 4 Kos to his name. The judges scored the fight 79-72, 76-75, and 79-72 in favor of the new champion, Azahar.
The WBC owes a great sense of gratitude to CSM promotions for hosting the WBC India championship showdown. The boxing eco system in India is on the rise thanks to the continued wonderful work by the Indian Boxing Council and many key stakeholders in the region.
